BARB CRANMER is an award-winning director, a member of the ‘Namgis First Nation of Alert Bay, BC of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation.

“I have been involved in film and video for many years.  The inspiration of my work comes from our people’s rich history.  I am a messenger of these stories, our stories from our perspective and giving voice to our communities is critical.” 

“I feel fortunate to be able to live the history of our people through the documentaries I make.  I get my source of strength from my community and most importantly my family.  They give me a strong sense of identity.”  “I have the strong belief in the continuation of our culture, by instilling pride, identity and empowering our people.

Laxwesa Wa:  Strength of The River about the westcoast fishery for the Canadian Discovery Channel won numerous awards

Qatuwas:  People Gathering Together about the rebirth of the canoe culture on the Pacific Northwest Coast.  Won first Telefilm Canada/TV Northern Canada Award, Best Documentary at the American Indian Film Festival and invited to the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.
